Holy city of Amritsar and the Golden Temple
Traveling to the Golden City, also known as Amritsar, considered to be a holy city in Punjab. Located in Amritsar is the Golden Temple, the most sacred place for Sikhism. This is my first time in India, and it is a very eye opening experience. I also got the chance to experience the morning prayer routine inside the Golden Temple, unfortunately no photographs were allowed inside. After the prayer, we went to the common kitchen / canteen also known as Langar where they serve free food for temple visitors and dwellers alike. 90% of the workers there are volunteer and they serve up to 100,000 people per day.
My host also brought me to the India-Pakistan border to watch the guard changing ceremony dance-off between each country during the border closing after the end of each day. It was quite the spectacle as many forms of celebration and dance happens on a daily basis there.
